Questions people ask

How do I see planning applications near me?

Type your postcode into the free lookup above. Every planning application from the last 12 months appears on the map, colour coded: amber is awaiting a decision, green was permitted, red was rejected. Tap any dot to read what was proposed and, where the register provides it, follow the link to the full application. It covers the London borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, Dublin city and county Cork today; more areas are coming.

What do the planning application statuses mean?

Awaiting decision means the council has validated the application but has not yet decided it — this is the window in which neighbours can comment. Permitted means consent was granted, sometimes subject to conditions. Rejected means the council refused it (the applicant can appeal). Withdrawn means the applicant pulled it before a decision.

Why check planning applications before buying a home?

Because the street you view is not the street you will live on. A neighbour’s loft conversion, a basement dig next door or a block going up at the end of the road all start life as a planning application, usually months before any work is visible. Checking the map around a property you are considering shows what is already approved and what is still being fought over.

Does it cover Ireland?

Yes — Dublin city and county Cork are the first Irish areas, drawn from the Irish state’s merged national planning register, which covers every local authority and is updated weekly. Switch areas above the search box. Two quirks shown honestly: Dublin declares many applications invalid on receipt (grey dots), and Cork city centre is a separate authority that publishes almost nothing to the national register, so the Cork map covers the county authority.

Does it cover Scotland, Wales and the rest of England?

Not yet. The underlying data exists for every UK planning authority — England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — and for all 31 Irish local authorities, so coverage is a rollout decision rather than a technical one. The pilots prove the experience; wider coverage is coming.

Can I object to a planning application?

Yes. While an application is awaiting a decision, anyone can comment — support or objection — through the council’s website. Every application on this map links straight to its page on the council’s planning portal, where the consultation deadline and comment form live.
